2/17/08 - Koontz Adventures HS @ Bike Barn
Reedsville, WV – Preston County West Virginia was beautiful on February 17 for the first harescramble of the 2008 Koontz Adventures race season. The bad part is that beautiful February weather for Preston County means on/off rain showers all day long with high winds and dark overcast. But hey, it could have been snowing and 28 degrees.
At noon, the big bike riders gathered on the line eager to start the year off right. From the get go, Corey Arbogast was flying on his new KTM 250 2-stroke. Corey rode a KTM 4-stroke last year, but he blew it up at a Shane Watt’s riding school. Therefore, he got some seat time on a Wattsy KTM 250 2-stroke and loved it. He then made the switch full time. Sunday, it proved to pay off for him. At the end of the first lap, Corey was 41 seconds ahead of 2nd overall.
At that point, he paced himself and conserved energy. Arbogast talked about the race with announcer Roy Dains, “Well, I got the holeshot and tried to ride smart and stay out of the water. I did not want to get cold. On the first lap my dad had a pit board up that said I had around 30 seconds on second place. I kind of set a pace, and tried to not wear myself out and I had a good race.” After a couple laps, it was apparent that unless Arbogast lost the race himself, no one was going to beat him. No one did as he lapped the entire field by the end of the 2-hour mud party and took home the overall.
