Overall Winner
Brandon Higgins

Reedsville, WV – No one could stop Brandon Higgins as he took the overall win this past Sunday at Bike Barn. Even though the deep water crossings were took out for the Youth Bike Race, the short track still provided many challenges for the young riders. A total of twenty riders came out to test themselves and their machines on the four mile track.

Higgins goal for the day was to rack up some points since he results slipped last weekend. Coming into this weekend Higgins was sitting in eighth overall. With the drop of the flag, Higgins was down. He battled throughout the first lap and by the end of it he was in the lead and over the next 4 laps never looked back. “Yea I didn’t get a really good start and I was just riding. I caught up to the leaders and got by Mike (McFarland).” Once Higgins passed McFarland the route was on. A couple hills made the course very interesting. Many riders were stuck on the same hill that caused a major bottleneck in the big bike race. Higgins credits the parents helping out on those hills. “I would like to thank everyone who helped me out on the hill back there. I just wanted to rack up some points today since I didn’t do so well last weekend.”

A minute-forty back West Virginia rider Michael McFarland took home second. Coming into this week, McFarland was sitting seventh overall in the Youth Bike Category. Davey Armstrong took third overall and was actually cutting faster lap times than McFarland on the last three laps!! McFarland managed to hang on to second by having a fast first two laps. “Yea, I knew he was there (Armstrong), I just kept pushing, hoping I could keep second.” Series points leader Brandon Whipkey struggled and settled for fifth on the day. Zach Nolan did not attend the race and that led to others taking advantage of the opportunity to gain points.
