Overall Winner
Zach Nolan

Elkins, WV – Coming into round seven of the AMA D5 HS Series, Brandon Whipkey was holding onto a 26 point lead for the overall. Saturday, Whipkey was a no show, leaving the door wide open for some of the close riders to make up some room or pass him. This was a tough track for the Youth Bikes with plenty or mud, hills, and other obstacles. For the most of the pack it was a four lap race. Out of 38 riders, only the top eight riders made the full five laps.

The first lap saw Brandon Higgins right in front of Zach Nolan. By the end of the race, the closest rider to Nolan and Higgins was six minutes back! Zach Nolan took the overall around a minute twenty seconds ahead of Brandon Higgins. “It was an awesome race, I got a nice start, and Brandon Higgins got out front. My bike is a little faster than his because he doesn’t have his built up, and I finally got by him and rode as fast as I could as long as I could” Nolan said. Fans were very important to the riders Saturday as they were picking up bikes all day. This was very evident in the Youth Bike as Zach Nolan thanked special fans in the post race interview with Roy Dains. “I really want to thank the fans that picked my bike up after I hit a tree.” Higgins was disappointed he could never make up any time on Nolan “Well, I got the hole shot and Zach was on me. He then got by me on the hill climb. I rode my race and tried to catch up with him, but I couldn’t.” The next pack of riders were Davey Armstrong and Michael McFarland, with Armstrong picking up the final podium spot and third in the Big Wheel 12-15 by 37 seconds. Dillon Shoemaker put in another great ride and won the 85cc 11-12 class.
