Overall Winner
Brent Sturdivant

Parsons, WV – Brent Sturdivant took his 4th win of the year this past Sunday at Pheasant Run. Coming into this round, only twelve points separated Zac Phillips and Kyle Helmick. Sixty points back from Helmick was sitting Sturdivant. Around thirty nine quads showed up to test the mountainous terrain in Tucker County, WV. The question of the day for the quads was if someone could beat Sturdivant. Normally when he shows up he wins. Also, the rain had held off the majority of the day, but the skies were looking dark for the quads.

With the drop of the flag the A classes hit the mountain and began their treck on the five mile course. Bottlenecks were a major problem for the Big Bike and Youth Bike races. For the Quads, that threat is nearly doubled, due to the size of the machines. The fans were interested to see who would come down off the hill first and who would avoid the bottleneck on the big hill in the back that had claimed so many riders already that day. At the end of the first lap, Gabe Phillips came through the barrels number one. Just as he had started up the mountain after checking in, Brent Sturdivant came to follow. The battle was on. When it came time for the riders to come down off of the hill for the second lap, Sturdivant came down off the hill alone. He set a blistering pace that no one could match all day. Sturdivant was the only rider to turn laps under nine minutes. He was able to do it for six of his ten laps. Sturdivant said there was a major wreck involving the leaders on the first lap. “The bike didn’t start well, so I was last off the line, about two miles in I caught up to the leaders, one of them hit a tree and we couldn’t get by so I took the outside line and got into second right there.”

Sturdivant took the overall win by four minutes and was happy to do so well on his stock bike. “Yea I love this track. This is my favorite track. We got to Elkins next, going to bring out the big motor bike for that race. This is my stock bike, stock motor, stock shocks. I had to really push it to get it to go hard, so I'm going to bring out the big bike for Elkins and try and continue my winning streak there. It is about 10 minutes from my house. It’s my home track.” The Phillips brothers came in second and third overall with Zac fairing better than Gabe. They ended up being around forty seconds apart. Gabe suffered from arm pump in the beginning of the race but finally got rolling. “Well on the first couple laps, I didn’t get to ride all of last week, my arms were pumping up real bad, so it took till about the third lap I took off and I started to have fun.”

The big news other than the race this past weekend is that Sunbury, PA’s own GNCC PRO CHRIS BORICH will be attending the next race at Kelly Mountain in Elkins, WV!!!! It will be great to see if anyone from the District 5 can step up and stay with Sturdivant and Borich. Borich is arguably the hottest ATV racer as we speak. He has won the last three GNCC pro races and is on his way in stopping Bill Balance at winning his eight consecutive title! So race fans, come out and enjoy the fun on May 19th at Kelly Mountain in Keyser, WV!!!
