Overall Winner
Brent Sturdivant

Davis, WV - After the Big Bike race, the Quads geared up to battle on the Tucker County terrain at Timberline. Forty-nine riders came out to battle on the Paul Koontz Motor Sports track. By the time the flag dropped, it was flat out hot! After a live guitar National Anthem, the race was on. Brent Sturdivant might not have gotten the holeshot, but he dominated all day long. Sturdivant’s lap times were insanely consistent. Every lap was in the 13th minute, but the last lap and it was a flat 14 minutes. New suspension work helped on the rocky terrain as he finished over ten minutes ahead of second Overall/Open A Todd Bunnell.

By the end of the race, Bunnell built a three minute buffer between himself and third overall. Glen Pritchard took third overall and won the Vet A class. Second in Vet A went to Allen Teter. Third went to Marcus Barrett. The day was not good for a lot of Top Ten overall points riders. The rocky, hilly course claimed David Whitacre, Austin Huffman, Gabe AND Zac Phillips and finally Kyle Helmick. So points were to be gained. If you were there, it was obvious that baring mechanic problems, Sturdivant was going to win.

Sturdivant talks about his start. “I thought I had the holeshot, but someone came up beside me and I got them about a mile in.” From then on Sturdivant charged and by the end of the first lap had a two minute lead on the field. Sturdivant was actually the only rider all day to crack the 13 minute mark with his lap times. In the post race interview Sturdivant talked about how his brother’s mechanical work paid off. “I was just trying to have fun today and see how this thing was running. I tried to just hammer down. I have had suspension trouble so my brother rebuilt my rear shock and it was just perfect.”

Suspension was a major factor on the rough and rocky track. Anyone that had the right set up, definitely conserved there energy by not having the pounding from the rocks. Sturdivant comments on it. “I could just hammer it anywhere I wanted to. Thanks to him (his brother) for getting that dialed in.” West Virginia rider Todd Buckley rode his Honda to first place in the Open B class and claimed fifth overall. He was also the top B rider for the day. Justin Lazadder rode his Honda to second in Open B but was still six minutes behind Buckley. Third place fell to Maryland native Bart Shaffer.

Other than Sturdivant, Richie Nolan pulled off the ride of the day. Not only did he win the Open C class by over four minutes, but he broke the top ten with a ninth overall finish! Ryan Church came up second in Open C on his Can Am and third went to Darwin Bennett. In the Open B 16-29 Cody Phillips took a convincing win. In the Open C 16-29 class, Levi McCauley took the win but a major battle was behind him. Ritchie Thomas, Larry Ames and Ryan Goldizen finished second, third and fourth while finishing within three minutes of each other! Vet B saw Gary Whitacre dominate as he was the only one in the class. In Vet C Kevin Helmick took the win with Nick Lambruno in second. Look for the racer spotlight this week with Kevin Helmick!

In the Four-Stroke Open class, Daniel Ramsey took the win with Travis Vanscoy in second. Josh Dains powered his Honda to the win in the School Boy class and a twelfth overall finish. That was one of the best rides of the day as I am sure that class starts in the back of the pack. Josh’s first lap was just over twenty minutes and the rest of his laps were in the sixteen’s and seventeen’s. Cody Hull came in second in that class and was a lap back from Dains. Kenny Wilfong won the Senior class as the lone entry. In the growing Quad Utility class, Steve Gillum won with Kawasaki mounted Randy Mellinger behind him.
